The fear and anxiety of surgery causes release of stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline. These stress hormones are responsible for rapid pulse rate, elevated blood pressure and slightly elevated blood glucose. These symptoms of anxiety and strss can be dealt with by reassuring the patient about the treatment/surgery, using anti-anxiety drugs like alprazolam and counselling.
