1. The name of the young girl in the movie was Helen Keller.

2. Helen was blind and deaf since infancy due to a severe case of scarlet fever and was consequently unable to communicate.

3. At the beginning of the movie, Hellen was subject to frequent violent and uncontrollable outbursts. Her parents looked at her with pity and allowed her to eat with her hands, knock over or break anything, and basically do anything she desires.

4. When Hellen'sbehaviourr became increasingly uncontrollable, her parents decide to institutionalize her in a sanitarium. However, they hire Anne Sullivan as a governess as a last-ditch effort to avoid sending Hellen to a sanitorium.
