Question 30
Confounding is best defined as _____.
between-subjectsExplanation / Answer
21. Single subject design
In this design, the sample is drawn from the population and each element of the samples or participants are then randomly assigned to different treatment conditions,
22.within subjects
This is because the same participants are being tested on two different treatment conditions to establish difference of significance between alcohol and other beverages ‘within’ the same persons.
23. By enhancing the effectiveness of the independent variable
Error Variance is uncontrollable variance due to the factors such as boredom, mood, guessing, inattention which may lead to greater variability within the sample. By dividing the experimental conditions into several "blocks", the researcher can localize error variance. in each block the within-group variability will become smaller
24. It allows control over subject variables
Matching participants as close as possible on measurable traits may help control for individual differences affecting the results.
25. Each subject must spend more time in the experiment and become fatigued.
Within subjects design lead to ‘carryover effects’ in the form of fatigue and practices die to involvement of the same participants in the two treatment conditions.
