Question
Our culture might be reinforcing people for being stressed by not valuing a slower pace and by valuing productivity over mental health. Because “workaholism” is still looked at positively by many people, being “stressed out” might be a desirable characteristic, because it portrays a certain image to others that we are hard working and productive.
Is stress self-inflicted in the sense that we feel like we always have to look stressed if we don’t want to be perceived as lazy?
Are students and professors more likely to show Type A personality patterns?
Does a Type A personality pattern lead to more success in college and in a career than a more relaxed personality style? Why would that be?
Also discuss how you could resist the pressure to always look busy and the temptation to talk about how stressed out you are.
