Explanation / Answer

Ans 1) In the first question, from the lines given -

"Sometimes, I jump in and out of lines when I'm in a rush. I just hope I am picking the fasted line!!!"

- it is clear that the person is trying his best to find the quickest way possible from all available options when he is in a rush. The word which best describes this is jockeying as it means struggling with every available means to achieve something.

Ans 2) Spatial layout refers to the floor plan relating to the architecture of the space showing the relative positions of various constituents in that space.

It thus refers to the architecture of the service layout.

Ans 3) As every hour around 35 customers are entering Del Posto which is a popular establishment, thus at the end of every hour, 35 people are added to the queue.

Hence the growth rate of the queue is thirty five customers per hour.

Ans 4) Number of customers entering per hour = 35

Number of customers served per hour = 20

If at 5 pm people start to enter del posto, then by 6 pm 35 people would have entered and 20 of them would be served. Lets call these people Group A.

Thus at 6 pm 15 people who entered at 5 pm would be left to serve.

Similarly, by 7 pm 35 more people would have entered. Lets call these people Group B. By 7 pm a total of 20 people would have been served out of which 15 people from Group A would be served first and then 5 people from Group B.

Thus by 7 pm, 30 people from Group B would be left to serve.

Similarly by 8 pm 35 more people would have entered. Lets call these people Group C. By 8 pm a total of 20 people would have been served out of which all 20 would be from Group B.

Thus 10 people from Group B and 35 people from Group C would be left to serve. At 8 pm a customer enters. His turn to get served would now come after 10 people from Group B + 35 people from Group C.

= 45 people

Thus from unitary method,

Time taken to serve 20 people = 1 hr

Time taken to serve 1 person = 1/ 20 hr

Thus time taken to serve 45 people = 45 * time taken to serve 1 person

= (1/20)* 45

=45/20

=2.25 hours

thus the correct answer is option B.
