Equity:
Equity is the condition in which people got the same things contribute that their relationship. This theory is based on the belief system of the people that how much they valued the others fairly. This is actually depending upon the perception of the people to treat others fairly. As in intimate relationship, a lot of ups and downs come, but people tried to put effort and time in their relationships. Equity is consisted on the long term equity and perceived equity and satisfaction.
Self Disclosure:
Self disclosure is something related to the person itself about revealing the intimate aspects of one to the others. In close relationship trust is replaced by the anxiety and losing the affections. Through this a relationship could become stronger by sharing the feeling and emotions (Sternberg & Barnes,1988).
Explanation / Answer
Equity theory says that we analyse our relationships based on the cost-reward system. We analyse the investment in a relationship and the rewards of that investment. If that seems to be equal for both the partners than there is a greater chance of sustained and satisfied relationship as compared to the other where person thinks that his or her input in terms of time, money and efforts is more as compared to the partner.
Self disclosure is when a person reveals about the intimate and personal aspect of themselves to others. In close relationships this is neccessary as it gives a feeling of trust and affection to the other person, and in a relationship where there is no self disclosure, it is assumed that the person is hiding something which creates anxiey. Thus self disclosure in close relationships is important for trust building.
