The objective of this project is to demonstrate your understanding of the functions human resources management by preparing a job analysis, selecting methods for recruitment and identify the steps to evaluate performance.
In this project you are asked to develop a human resource report for a company you have worked for in the past OR for a company that you would like to work for in the future.

Research: In this project you are expected to research information and reference the concepts cover in the text and classroom. (All sources must be cited and referenced)
Your research should focus on current HRM theories and best practise models for leadership.
This part of the plan should explain the how and why?
Application on Theory: The human resource report that you develop should include examples of human resource tools that would used by Human Resources Managers such as:
Job descriptions
Job specifications
Job applications
Job postings
Performance Plans.
Analysis and Observations: In your human resource plan you are expected to explain the implication of the Human Resource function on the business or organization. How does good human resource management enhance productivity and quality. What role does human resources management play on strategic steps and success on the business.
Pick a company for you report. The human resources plan should be based on a company that you have worked for in the past or a company you would like to work for in the future.
An introduction and background summary of the type of business your human resource report will be based on. This should be a paragraph or two. Keep this section brief however you should explain the nature of the business (what sector), the size of the business (how many employees) and where the business is location. It would be helpful if you explain if the business is a place where you have worked or where you would like to work. (This part is up to you, make sure you chose a business that you know something about)
The body of your report should include the following topics.
Job Analysis and Design: In this section, you are to prepare a job analysis as well as developing a job description or job specification sheet. Explain the purpose of the job analysis and create the following forms.

Recruitment and Selections: In this section of the report, describe the process of recruitment and selection at your chosen company. Discuss the different approaches to recruitment and selection. Choose an effective method for recruitment and selection. This section should include examples of:
Job postings (prepare a sample job posting and describe how the position will be advertised (on-line, newspaper, job board etc)
Job interview (prepare a list of sample interview questions and evaluation criteria)
Job selection process – describe how application will be selected. What method of evaluation and selection will be used)
Performance Management and Job Evaluation: In this section describe the steps required to conduct job evaluations and performance management.
Performance appraisals: Develop a sample of a performance evaluation
Describe methods of evaluation performance and the strengths and weaknesses of the different approaches to employee evaluation.
Conclusion and observations: In this section you are expected to explain the implications of the Human Resource function on the business or organization. How does good human resource management enhance productivity and quality. What role does human resources management play on the strategic direction and success of the business. What did you learn from the research you conducted. What are the current trends in human resources, what can we expect in the future.

Human Resource Management
Management of resources effectively and efficiently is the job of managers in general. For HR managers the resources to be utilized are people and their talents. Critically, the role of HR managers is to identify, develop, create, implement, coordinate and manage policies/norms, which guides the employee and department performance. The operations of an HR manager range from monitoring people present at the job to creating leadership careers for them. An HR department, manager and functioning must be robust in every organization as it is vital for the business of every enterprise.
Classically, Human Resource Management (HRM) is concerned about identifying, selecting, placing, motivating, developing, and promoting workforce in an organization. HRM involves in all activities related to employee recruitment and selection, compensation management, rewards administration, performance evaluation, training and development and career management.
In a typical organization HR management has three roles to play i.e. oversee human resource managerial functions, align with business operation of the organization, and act as advisory body to avoid pitfalls.
As in other managerial function HR management also engaged in planning, organizing, directing and controlling human resources. A brief description of their functions is provided below.
1. Human Resource Planning – This activity helps the managers to determine number, type, and level of employees needed to achieve the organizational goals. The activities such as job analysis, organizational structuring and design, etc. are important for this function.
2. Organizing human resources- Organizing and arranging people in a meaningful manner is very important in achieving the organizational goals. Recruitment, selection, and induction are the vital activities related to the organizing function of management.
3. Directing – Guiding the employees’ efforts at different levels and making them to provide productive contributions to the organizational achievement is he aim of this function. Reward management, performance evaluation and compensation administration are the major components of this function of management.
4. Controlling – Along with planning, organizing, and directing, the HR managers are required to control the activities using policies and norms to make the organization function in an orderly manner. The HR mangers are expected to apply several control measures to ensure the activities are moving in planned manner.
Some of the major Operative Functions of Human Resource Management are discussed below.
1. Job Analysis and Design - Job analysis is the process of systematically gathering information about a job and describing its nature. The information gathered from job analysis will help in developing job specification and job descriptions of various jobs. Job specifications indicate the requirements for doing the job such as qualifications, experience, skills, age, etc. Job descripts outlines the tasks, responsibilities and duties to be carried out by a job incumbent.
2. Recruitment and Selection - Recruitment is the process of attracting potential talent to an organization so that the managers can select the right employees for their jobs. There are many sources of recruitment such as internal and external, fresher versus experienced, etc. The HR mangers need to be creative in attracting new generation employees. On campus recruitments are one of the emerging trends in human resource planning. There two important steps to recruitment and selection; one is attracting talent and second is hiring them for job. For attracting talent, the HR mange is required to present the positive aspects of an organization and the benefits the job applicants can obtain by working in the company. While hiring an employee, the HR manager acts as mediator between the organization and the prospective employee. The HR manger has to acquire best talent required for the job and assure the prospective candidates about the benefits working in the organization.
3. Performance Appraisal – all people in an organization perform their job, but the HR manager is required to assess their performance whether it matches with the standard or acceptable level. An HR manger is must develop methods to assess the performance of the employees so that they can make corrective steps. The performance appraisal should be not only effective in analyzing the performance of individual employees, it must be fair and uniform across the organization. After analyzing the performances of individuals the HR management must establish a communication system to give feedback to the employees about their performance. .
An associated work to performance evaluation is managing the system of rewarding the employees. All good performances should be rewarded appropriately. It is assumed that rewarding the employees fairly can motivate them to work better and improve their performance. The HR manger can use both intrinsic as well as extrinsic rewards to motivate the employees.
As the globalization and other business trends emerge, the job of HR managers also evolves. There are many options available to HR mangers now to accomplish the organizational goals. Some of the emerging concepts in the area of HR management are virtual teams, temping, telecommuting, flexible working hours, work-life balance, etc. The HR managers are required to innovators of the people management in the current scenario.
