Question

Of the four components of classical conditioning, two are the same, although labeled differently. Label each component of classical conditioning in this example: A baby is lying in her crib, door to room open and window also open. There are wind chimes outside the window, A breeze causes the door to slam, the baby cries, and following this, the sound of wind chimes elicit crying even without the noise of the door slamming shut. Now, using correct terminology, identify each componnet in the story above.

Explanation / Answer

The given example is describing classical conditioning theory, this example is also similar to the Watson experiment in which he conditioned his son with the fear of Rabbit.

Well first thing in this example is stimulus which can be categorized in two ways first one is natural stimulus and second one is related or artificial stimulus. In this example the natural stimulus is sound of window but baby cries to see the wind chimes because he conditioned natural stimulus with related stimulus.

Baby showed real action towards sound of door but he conditioned it to the wind chime so that without door sound he showed real reaction in the presence of related stimulus which was wind chime.

Pavlov experimented it with dog and sound of bell while Watson used clothe toys.
