Explanation / Answer
A. His wife: Ivan became obsessed with the elite way of life by accumulating and loving materials and trying to live a life beyond his capacity. He neglected his wife and children and went alone. So, his wife won’t have any feeling when he was at the deathbed. They might think that he needs to suffer because he once made them suffer.
B. His servant, Gerasim: Gerasim is the only soul in the whole novel who looks after the diseased Ivan. He shows real character in the novel which Tolstoy wanted to contrast the characters from the city life who lived a self-centered life. He would have felt very bad for Ivan.
C. His work colleagues: He treated his colleagues without any respect and didn’t have any personal connection with them. For him they were just existing in the world but he never showed any attachment towards them. So they would have thought that he should suffer.
