Question

To represent persistence in organizations, the consultant described a time when a general manager discovered that his contract manager violated one of the corporation's rules; he held him accountable giving him one warning; and later fired him over a similar incident. This is indicative of an organizational leader remaining persistent in holding his people accountable, no matter how critical that person's role. This may seem an extreme response to an action that is often common practice, the gratuitous gift; however, it was not just the violation of the rule but the follow through in the consequence that was important. (1) Describe a time you did something that was against the rules or considered immoral and got away with it. (2) What were the ramifications of not being held accountable for your actions/decisions? Explain. (3) Is there a type of wrong doing where repercussions should be withheld? Explain.

Explanation / Answer

1. In the past, I have copied in an exam.

2. It made me feel invincible, and that I could get away with it with no consequences again. In the future, I presumed I could copy again and was not able to in the exam hall. I then had to get a lower grade, when I could have studied earlier.

3. In self-defense manslaughter/murder/battery, where evidence must be thoroughly reviewed. Other special cases involving universal rights rather than criminal law.
