What are descriptive and inferential statistics? How do they differ from one another? How are they used in psychological research? What are the four types of scales of measurement used in psychological research? Describe each one in the context of an example 3. 4. Why are measures of central tendency-especially the arithmetic mean-so important to psychological research and theory? 5. What is statistical significance? What is the proper use of this concep? Why is the concept often misunderstood? What are the two types of statistical errors that can occur in hypothesis testing? Describe each one and provide an example How do parametrie and non-parametric statistics differ from one another? 6. 7. 8. Why should researchers plan their data analyses in advance of data collection hat is an analysis plan' Why is 1t an important research too 9

Explanation / Answer

Would anser first four questions due to contraint of time

Ans 1) Statistical analysis provide scientiic base of the research, it full proofs the research eg, any personality trait study with the likings and the career, If we find any coefficient close to 1 then the test is valid. It provides a base or validility for the theory.

Ans 2) Differential statistics provides description of population its characterstics which is displayed by graphs, numeric tables. Whereas inferential statistics provides conclusions or inferences about the population. It can be used to study the psychology of the population eg, differential statistics provinding graph of how many people in the particular area or region have creative mindset or multiple intelligence, and example of inferential statistics can be is happiness related to money?

Ans 3) The four types of scales in statistics are nominal (categorical scale and numbers which are used to identify or classify) - If the study is conducted of children having powerfull EQ - I would have two age groups eg children between 5-7 and 8-10, I would name it as group A and group B respectievly. Ordinal - It is ranking people in order eg, stress during night from the scale of 1-5, on being most likely and 5 being absolutely not. Interval - It is a scale which represents quantity by grouping it, let us students who have score =d makes between 40-45, 46-51 etc. Ratio - It is similar to interval scale, having equal units.

Ans 4) Measures of central tendency are mean, median and mode. Since psychology is study of human behaviour, traits, likes, dislikes etc. When a group's charachetrstcis are required to be displayed then in that case instead of consedring individial data, average is considered as the base. which is equivalent to the group's intelligence.
