Explanation / Answer

Amit Kumar is an entrepreneur based out of Jaipur, a fast growing Indian city and state capital of Rajasthan. He is known for his innovative enterprise " food at will" a food delivery initiative that delivers food at the place and time of choice. Amit got this idea after falling sick on his rail trip to southern states when he developed a serious case of food poisoning by consuming unhygienic food on board a train. Food on the go, or quality of food available at railroad stations and bus stands is almost always of pathetic quality in India, barring a few exceptions, thanks to the nexus between food mafia, government officials and politicians. The vested interests, lack of monitoring and corrupt system does not let the captive consumers on board or in transit, access to hygienic food. The market is huge, with millions of persons on the move at any given time.

Amit started with a meagre amount of INR 200000, equivalent to $3000. He tied up with a number of restaurant owners for delivery at the seat of customer as his / her train or bus approached an station. However, customer contact was still an issue, with traditional methods of advertising in place. The penetration of internet among the masses came as a boon for him. He marketed his services digitally, developed an app that allowed a customer to order and pay online. He tied up with zonal railways to have a vending place on stations. Now, a customer could simply order on the app and could be monitored for movement of train and was given the food as the train arrived. Linking the service with GPRS increased efficiency and service levels. Amit's company delivers as many as 8000 packets daily across six stations. He plans to triple the numbers this year.

The journey to success has not been easy. He faced stiff resistance from the mafia and sometimes framed in false cases. However good intent and quality prevailed and his company enjoys very good word of mouth. He attributes his success yo the teamwork, customer focus and loyal and hardworking employees. His commitment to work and innovative approach keeps the tempo running and accelerating. He considers people as the biggest asset for him, who have remained with him in all thick and thin of life. Another factor of his success is uncompromised adherance to quality and customer service. He does not think that on the go customers forget the poor quality very soon, so don't need to be cared about, as most others think. Instead, he wants to be remembered as one of the best in the plethora of unscrupulous vendors that fleece customers and operate on fly by night mode.

He is known to be a god fearing, humble soul who is thoroughly disciplined. He wakes up at 5 am and does exerise for an hour, a blend of yoga and brisk walk. He often contributes a part of his profit to the charity, for old age homes and education for the children of destitute. He works for almost 13 hours a day, but still feels energetic when he leaves the office. "My family gives me the strength to smile when I reach them" he says smiling.
