Criteria for mental health diagnosis:

Symptoms: Common obsessive thoughts in OCD include:

Fear of being contaminated with germs, fear of harming others, fear of loosing things, fear of violent images near eye sight, Superstitions; excessive attention to something considered lucky or unlucky

Common compulsive behaviors in OCD include:

Double or tripple checking of things example house door, keeping a very strct check on loved ones, Spending a lot of time washing or cleaning, Praying excessively or engaging in rituals triggered by religious fear, Accumulating “junk” such as old newspapers or empty food containers

Possible causation: OCD is due to genetic and hereditary factors. Chemical, structural and functional abnormalities in the brain are the cause. Distorted beliefs reinforce and maintain symptoms associated with OCD.
