Watch one of your favorite shows without zipping through the commercial breaks. At the end of the program, list the first three that come to mind from all the commercials that you saw. Assuming that these were the ones you found persuasive, explain why you recalled these specific commercials more than all the others. You may want to try and recall commercials beyond the first three to determine why your three commercials are "superior".   Make sure you address the "designing persuasive communications" part of the chapter.

Explanation / Answer

The three advertisements that first come to my mind include the advertising by Pepsi featuring them as the best over Coca Col, the advertisement featuring the Toyota Prius and the advertisement of Colgate Sensitive. I found these commercials as superior based on the reasons as follows. The advertisement that featured Pepsi was trying to make a comparison with Coca Cola and trying to pass the message that Pepsi is superior. I have not seen much advertisement which uses comparative advertising using the actual product name and the competition between Pepsi and Coke made me watch the advertisement and remember the same. When we consider the second one which features Toyota Prius, I watched the advertisement based on emotional appeal because I own a Toyota Prius and I am really attached to the vehicle. When my vehicle is featured as the best on the screen I feel proud to be the owner. The third advertisement featured Colgate Sensitive as a solution for the sensitivity problem. Actually I am suffering from tooth sensitivity and am really searching for a solution. When I watched the advertisement, the language they used to explain the purpose of the product seemed to me appealing for me based on my need and I thought of trying the product. Hence I remembered the advertisement. Other advertisements were not able to persuade me based on need or emotion or language.
