Question
Many people derive happiness by connecting to a wider purpose and contributing to the well-being of others. As part of that connection they practice ‘random acts of kindness’--doing something for someone that is unexpected like helping someone load their groceries, giving someone quarters for the parking meter, helping out a friend with some homework, or picking up lunch for a stranger. Not only do they help out another person, they derive happiness from the gesture.
Look for opportunities this week to practice a ‘random act of kindness.
Write a brief summary of the opportunity you saw, what you did, and how it made you feel.
Explanation / Answer
The opportunities are seen everyday to make a choice of being kind to someone. I always let any elderly person sit in the metro tube or make them go first in the queue. Last week, there was some event happening for children in the school near my house,I got to know about it and as I had nothing to do I went up to the authorities to ask them if they need any help,I told them I wont take any money but just want to help. I did some of the decorations and also baked some cookies for the children along with some pasta. The children loved it and the authorities thanked me which obviously brought a smile to my face. Its important to engage in such acts since we are already surrounded by so much stress and negativity around us that such small acts of kindness not only spreads smiles and positivity but keeps you sane as well. And blessings of others are always needed. It gives you some satisfaction that I did something good for someone which in turn motivates you to be more optimistic and happy in life.
