Sustain talk can be worded similarly to change talk but in favor of sustaining the behavior. Change talk and sustain talk are complete opposites. Change talk includes statements made about change while sustain talk includes statements that involve sustaining the behavior without change. The conversation that I had with my friend regarding her behaviour towards her parents since they wanted her to pursue her education abroad and not in the local university was quie rigid. Obviously, her behaviour was stubborn and she provided me ample of reasons(DARN) to justify her behaviour and not change it. She told me she cant live alone in a different country, she doesnt want to go away from her home etc. She stuck to her ground and eventually managed to not go and study in her local university. This is a sustain talk since she provided all the reasons in the world to stick to her ground and not change her viewpoint at all.
