Question

Practice Question 19: A sociologist measured the level of conformity and authoritarianism of 42 people in a laboratory setting. See below.

*Moore, J. C., Jr. and Krupat, E. (1971) Relationship between source status, authoritarianism and conformity in a social setting. Sociometry 34, 122–134.

A) Write the regression equation.

B) Using the t-table and the regression output provided. Test the null hypothesis that the slope is zero using the significance level = 0.05. Explain your steps and include a conclusion.

C) Using the t-table provided. Find the 99% confidence interval of the slope

I really need to know how to do B and C.

lm (formula = conformity ~ authority, data = Moore) Coefficients: Estimate Std. Error t value Pr (>tl) Intercept)2. 30I authority 2.544 4.834 5.610 -0.069 0.388

Explanation / Answer

a) Regression equation is

Conformity = 12.301-0.388*Authority

b) T value of authoruty value or slope is -0.069 and degree of freedom wil be 42-2 = 40

P value = P(t<-0.069)+P(t>0.069)

P value = 0.9453

Since, it is much greater than 0.05, we failed to conclude that the slope is significant differ from zero

c) Margin of error = Critical value at 99% Interval *Standard error

Margin of error = 2.7045*5.610 = 15.17202

99% Interval

(-0.388-15.17202, -0.388+15.17202)

= (-15.560, 14.784)
