Question

Any article topic on child development or child psychology. There is no specific article, anyone you can find.

You are to read and review/critique a scholarly journal article on a topic in child psychology/child development relevant to this course published since 2006 (do not include adolescent development, as that is in another course). The article must be primary research (i.e., not a literature review, review article itself, magazine/newspaper, blog, etc.) The appropriateness of the article, written expression and reflective critique will be assessed. You are to submit the original article as well as a 4-page review.

Suggested questions to consider:

Was there a large enough sample?

What research model did they use?

What would you have used?

Is this research valid?

It is truly testing what it is meant to be testing?

What did the authors conclude?

Do you agree with their conclusions?

Is this research useful to clinicians?

What did you think of this journal article?

What new learning can you take from this article that applies to your own life?

The best papers I have read started out with a summary of the article, including the purpose, methods, and main findings (done in 1 page only so that the bulk of the paper is on your critique). Then the questions I asked were integrated into the paper in a well-written way with analytical critiques (positive and negative) of the research. As per the instructions, 4 pages. Please be sure to cite your work

The above article was reviewed in the given field. It focuses on the development of early childhood disorders and what factors are associated with the same. Therefore, the factors that were discerned are associated with the famil income, family history of the disorder (genetic component), neglect in parenting, poor conditions and lack of support systems. The sample size seems large enough to make conclusions regarding the hypothesis. Research model used was correlational research. The research evidences seem valid since it is based on a highly empirical approach and the same model would have been used by any other researcher who aims to gather information regarding the field. The conclusions are agreed upon and it can be highly useful from the purpose of research since the ideas can be circulated amidst poeople in order to spread awareness and avoid the childhood disorders by taking the required precautions.
