Soldiers in war are called upon to do certain acts as part of the command process. At times we consider some of those acts as being against humanity. Should soldiers be permitted to argue that they are not responsible because they were following orders and had no say in the process. Also, consider whether we as a society should accept such a defense? How far down in the chain of command should we impose the crimes against “humanity?” Which is more important: what rank a person holds or the specific acts that the person may have done? What about the loyalty that a person show or owes his family, friend or country, does that matter, and is it as important, as the more general loyalty to your fellow human being?

Explanation / Answer

When it comes to the soldiers, they are not so much in power as to what to do. So, I feel like that they should be permitted to argue in the process. Keeping this view intact, I am not of the support that all the acts of the soldiers are humanitarian and sometimes they can be brutal. Some soldiers even take advantage of the situation and orders and act according to their vicious motives. However, when it comes to the military and taking soldiers, in particular, they are trained to follow orders. These soldiers go through years of training and are continuously reminded to follow orders of their generals or subordinates who are above them. So even if they morally feel incorrect to do it, they follow otherwise they have to go through punishment or sometimes even suspensions.

The real people here to questions are the people who give the orders. They should rationally think whether or not they are doing things properly. Sometimes their decisions will be harsh on people and the public may not like it. When we say whether the chain or commands or thinking of humanity is good. There is a question that we should consider. Is the command really wrong or does it have any hidden agendas? When it comes to secrecy, the military has been one of the department which has so many hidden and secrets agendas. Sometimes, the orders may not be appreciated by the public, but it may have some hidden good for the society as a whole. Therefore, all these things should be considered before making the argument. Therefore, sometimes rank also plays a vital role in giving commands as the most top secrets would be known only to the top generals.

When it comes to the loyalty of the soldier, they swore to safeguard their family and the country before starting their services. That is why they would safeguard them even with their life. I am not saying all the soldiers are good, but most of them are. And their actions are most of the time base on the commands they receive. So before making a judgment, we should consider all these points.
