In a project plan, critical path plays a vital role. It is the longest sequence of activities in a project plan which must be completed at right time so that the project can be finished on due date. if there is a change in the activities on the critical path then, there will be change in the logic of the project & there will be change in the calender of other activities on critical path. As we know that an activity on the critical path can't be started untill its previous activity is complete, so if there is a change in activity on critical path then its near critical path will become affected. As a result of this we can't proceed to next activity on the critical path untill its prvious activity is completed. If one activity on a critical path is delayed due to schedule update then there will be delay in other activities and this will lead to a project delay. So it is required to finish all the activities on a critical path on time inorder to complete a project on time.
