Question

The question I am seeking to answer will use an experimental strategy. Experimental research is done to discover a casual relationship between various factors (Feldman 25). Two different conditions will be devised and then the behavior of the participants exposed to each condition will be compared. The question I would like to answer is, if a group of children are allowed to play violent video games will it make them more aggressive than a group of children who are not allowed to play violent video games? When taking apart the components of this question, the group of children who are allowed to play violent video games is the treatment or experimental group, and the group of children who are not allowed to play violent video games is the control group. The treatment group is exposed to the treatment variable being studied, and the control group is not. There are two types of variables in the experiment, the independent and the dependent variable. The independent variable is the variable that researchers manipulate in the experiment, in this situation it is the violent video games. The dependent variable is the variable that researchers measure to see if it changes as a result of the experimental manipulation, in this situation it is the degree of aggressive behavior after the group of children were allowed to play violent video games. I think it would be most effective for this to be a sequential study. This way the group of children playing the violent video games will have a good amount of time to play them and see if they truly have an effect on their behavior. It is also important to see if playing violent video games will have more of an affect on children of different ages.    The participants in both groups will be randomly placed to make sure that any personal characteristics that might affect the outcome of the experiment are divided proportionally among the participants in the different groups (Feldman 29). Participants will also not be aware of the purpose of the experiment, but they will be aware that they may be exposed to violent video games to make sure that all participants know that this is a possibility and are comfortable with it. The outcome that I would hope to see from this experiment is that violent video games will not cause children to show more aggressive behavior. I hope that this is the outcome because I know that many children enjoy playing video games, and many of these games can be very violent. I think about how I want to raise my children and whether or not to allow them to play certain video games if they are interested in them. I would not want to take away something that they enjoy, but I also would not want what they enjoy to change their behavior for the worse.

WHAT DO YOU AGREED OR HOW WOULD COMMENT ON THIS PASSAGE?

Explanation / Answer

The experimental study of effect of video games on the aggressive behavior of the children by the researcher for the stated reasons would have been have been ethical if it had been not confined. The researcher has confined the study for a personal cause, the purpose of a study should always be above personal motives. Here the researcher wants to conduct the study so that he could raise his children in a better way, this makes this experimental research unethical and disagreeable.
