Explanation / Answer

Primary Post: In your own words, discuss the social stigma associated with having a mental disorder, including the accuracy of the stereotype that people with a psychological disorder are prone to violence.

The fact that people with a psychological disorder are prone to violence come from the fact that many of the criminals who have carried out the most horrendous crimes are psychopaths and are such because of having personality disorders. This creates an impression in the society that people committing gross gross crimes are mad people. The stigma from one or two cases or even 20 to 30% of the worst crimes, has been made into a generalisation of people thinking that 100% of people having any kinds of mental disorder will be criminals. What people fail to understand that not all mental disorder leads to people becoming violent.

Secondary Post: In your own words, differentiate between dissociative identity disorder and schizophrenia.

Dissociative identity disorder may also be referred to as multiple personality disorder, where a person has two different personalities that reside within the same person. People may not be able to remember some of the events and this would be considered as not ordinary. This may most commonly be due to a child hood trauma faced by a personshere child hood abuse is seen in most of the cases. Treatment may be done by supportive care or counselling.
