Title page: Change in Dynamics of Maslow’s Needs Hierarchy and Its implications on Human Behaviour in Current Times.

Abstract (see APA guide for format): Abraham Maslow proposed the “Needs Hierarchy Pyramid” in the year 1943. It was a succinct representation of human needs and desires and the pursuits to achieve them. The base of the pyramid formed the imperative needs and a gradual ascension to the top of the pyramid represented the secondary and tertiary human needs like love, affection and finally self-actualisation. This paper will attempt to showcase if the scales have been tipped in terms of the importance of each level. Furthermore, an analysis of the contrast between the American society in 1943 and 2016/7 should be able to prove if the pyramid is viable even today.

Introduction

The background to this study is the American society in the mid 40’s and the American society today.

The purpose of this study is simply to note the similarities and differences in the society and how it is all reflected in Abraham Maslow’s pyramid of human behaviour.

This study is significant because in the mid 40’s the society experienced powerful dictators and political authority that was capricious. Furthermore, the demagogs of society were unfortunately successful in influencing the lives of minorities. Today, we see these patterns beginning to repeat itself. This is why a study like that is relevant even today.

Literature Review

If this “macro” view were to be better understood, one would have to analyse the situation on a “micro” level. This can be done perfectly by observing the similarities and differences in the human needs pyramid. Analysing data of basic need fulfillment of the American population would be a fair start. In order to analyse if the need of security within the society is being fulfilled, the best way is to check employment rates, healthcare systems and aspects that help the American public feel economically secure.

Methodology

Primary and secondary research analysis.

Ie. Data concerning employment, education, healthcare, voting behaviours etc. The aim is to match political and economic decisions made by the public to the leaders who promise to fulfill their most desirable needs.

Hypothesis

The Needs Hierarchy pyramid should have major markers that are similar to when it was proposed in 1943. This is because the current society is emulating patterns that were observed in the mid 40’s
