No running water, no automobiles, and (gasp!) no cell phones! Most of the skills and things you currently have would be utterly useless living off the land. How do the Bushmen do it? What skills would you have learn to survive by hunting and gathering?

Though all is relatively still and nothing but whis- pers can be heard, I am utterly hypnotized by these goings-on. The stage seems to be pulsing with tor-rents of passion and exhilaration just waiting to beunleashed. I am utterly alive with excitement—andcan only look back to these cold words I have writtenwith dismay. How can I even think to express my loveof theatre in these pages? How can I hope to share with you readers the awe and the thrill that course throughmy body when I engage in theatre’s many mysteries? For the theatre is not merely a body of plays, acollection of skills, or a collaborative art form. It is alife. It is people. It is people making art out of them-selves. It has been the living reenactment of the humanadventure for more than three thousand years, andnever so alive as it is today. Live theatre transcendsby light-years anything that could be said or writtenabout it, and I only hope I can do it justice.
