SPC - Statistical process control (SPC) is a methodology for establishing and maintaining high-quality output. Although not derived from lean production or TQM per se, it is nonetheless essential to both. SPC includes a set of tools and principles for determining if a process is stable, for monitoring a process for possible changes in behavior, and for assessing whether a process is capable of meeting production requirements. This section gives a brief, nonmathematical overview of SPC concepts and tools. Described earlier and illustrated in Figure 4.3, a notable feature of every process is variability. Variability is inherent in all outputs and processes, although if the variability is small enough it is inconsequential. High-quality products originate from processes wherein the variability is so small that only a very tiny proportion of the output fails to meet requirements. Thus, one key to achieving a high-quality process is to manipulate aspects of the process so that the variability is very small.

In simple terms, the aim of Statistical Process Control (SPC) method is to utilize the statistical techniques which allow the company to form or be able to create a controlled manufacturing process. Which has the advantage based on the fact that it allows a company to determine if the design of a particular product is efficient to be manufactured at a large scale if it is efficient enough if it saves costs and production time etc.
The system is effective because no matter machines or human, nothing is error free and is going to have a variation at some point in time. SPC allows a company to narrow down the variation and allow the design flaw, if any, to be corrected.
