Question
what can be improved in the following case-based learning respond,
All,
As a CEO in a situation like this, I would have to take a step back and realise I allowed the company to grow but within that growth we strayed away from our original values. I must think, am I out to make money through advertising, or is what is near and dear to my heart helping out young people in need. Of course it is helping the young people of this community have a safe space. So I have to immediately fire my Vice President of Marketing, as her direction has put of company in turmoil. Next step is to issue a statement apologizing for what happened, explain that the VP has been let go and we are going to get back to our original roots.
After this we can then try to raise funds through other ways. Asking for private donations, and crowd funding. I do believe having a Vive President of Marketing may be an important task. Though I feel going with a small group who would be in charge of the marketing may be a more suitable for this task. We can hire a diverse group of people under 30, who have more of a mind set for the "tween" market. Next step would be to higher a specialist IT person, who can navigate these web pages and help prevent these problems in the future.
All we can truly do is a reset get back to the basics of our vision, and put forth our best efforts that nothing like this will happen again
Explanation / Answer
From the case presented above it seems like the organization concerned is moved away from its principles and the CEO of that organization is apologising for that.
Here the CEO is accepting the fact that he has allowed the company to grow but the growth was not in line with the original values of the organization. The CEO has realised that he runs the organization not in order to earn mony but for helping out young people in need, income is secondary but from past few time he was not aligned towards his goal and this has hurt the organization.
It is a known fact that in today’s dynamic environment there comes a situation when the organizations forget the original principles on which they were formed and slowly they lose their position in the market. It is important to be in line with thee the values and principles in order to sustain in the market. It is the values and vision which motivates the people working in an organization.
What can be improved?
By analysing the case the following problems are evident:
1) Going away from the vision on which the organization was formed.
2) Top management losing control over employees.
3) Human Resource
4) Goals of organization not well defined.
All the four problems stated above should be addressed in order to improve the situation of the organization.
An organization is formed on some visions and principles like the organization mentioned in the case was formed to help young and needy people, the vision of the organization is the soul of it which keeps the organization get going, it should not be allowed in any case for an organization to move away from its vision, in this case situation can be improved by going back to helping young people and clearly defining the goals and telling all the employees about it.
The top management which is the CEO in this case should keep an eye on the happenings of the organization, a control measure will allow to check whether the organization is doing what was supposed to do if not corrective measures should be taken to bring back the organization on track.
The problem of HR is eminent from the fact that Marketing VP was not aligned towards the vision of the organization, she was more concentrated on advertising and making money rather than helping people and growing, this shows that either she was not aware of the vision or she was not under control also the need of an IT expert is felt, thus hiring right and required number of people will improve the situation.
