Topic chosen: Consumer social buying behaviour

1. Why did you pick this particular topic? Explain why you selected this topic from so many and why its important to you.

I picked this particular topic because I am keen to explore the influence of social media on the buying behaviour of a consumer. Being a marketing student, it is very important to be aware of changing customer preferences and the impact that social media plays on their buying capacity and requirements.

2. Why is this a key topic relative to a successful social media strategy?

This topic is relative to a successful social media strategy because a company can make its social media strategy if it has useful insights about the buying behaviour of customers and has done a survey on the platforms through which customers prefer buying products. A company can base its maketing strategy on the latest trends and customer preferences. This leads to the success of a company in the long run.

3. What can happen when things go wrong relative to the topic you have selected? Provide a specific brand or product example.

When things go wrong with the social media strategy formulated by the company, then it leads to revenue loss for the company and its market share can also fall drastically. So it is very important to be well aware of the changing customer preferences for a brand manager. For eg. in case of Levi's, the company's strategy is purely on the basis of brick and mortar sales since it has a strong distribution network. Levi's has not explored the social media marketing channel to a large extent. If the company's strategy would have been broader, maybe it could have led to increased sales of its products.
