Question
You have conducted a single-factor experiment for a chemical process investigating the effect of three levels of catalyst on reaction rate. You used three replications and randomized the order of the runs. You obtained the following output from Minitab. Interpret the results and make a recommendation for the level of catalyst given that maximum reaction rate is desired.
One-way ANOVA: Rate versus Catalyst

Explanation / Answer
Solution:
For the given scenario, the null and alternative hypotheses for the ANOVA test are given as below:
Null hypothesis: H0: There is no any significant difference in the average reaction time due to three levels of catalyst.
Alternative hypothesis: Ha: There is a significant difference in the average reaction time due to three levels of catalyst.
H0: µ1=µ2=µ3 versus Ha: µ1µ2µ3 or at least two µ’s are different.
From given Minitab output, the p-value for one way ANOVA is given as 0.00 which is less than 5% level of significance. So, we reject the null hypothesis that there is no any significant difference in the average reaction time due to three levels of catalyst.
There is sufficient evidence to conclude that there is a significant difference in the average reaction times due to three levels of catalyst.
