Question

3. Is this 2-wire control or 3-wire control? How do you know? Assume that the disconnect is closed. Describe what happens when the FORWARD button is pushed and released. 4. 5 Assume that the motor is running in the forward direction. Describe what happens when the REVERSE button is pushed and released. 6. What is the purpose of the NC contacts, 'MR' and 'MF'? 7 What is the purpose of the NO 'MR' contact? 8. Assume that the motor is running in the reverse direction. List the steps necessary to make the motor go in the forward direction. 9. Which component provides short-circuit protection in the power circuit? 10. which component provides overload protection in the power circuit?

Explanation / Answer

3. Yes it's a two wire control. As two wires are used to control the forward and backward direction motion of the motor.

4.Here the concept of latching is used.As we know the push button is when pressed it will work and when removed it will be disconnected like the doorbell so then how this can be used here?? the ans is when the FORWARD is pressed and released then the MF will get energized so it will make the connection of MF contactor (which is connected in parallel with the forward push button ) to NC from NO.So, now our motor will be rotating in the FORWARD direction untill any further switching.

5.So now when the REVERSE button is pressed while running in the FORWARD direction, the motor will move in the REVERSE dirction as the REVERSE button is pressed because when REVERSE push button is pressed the MR contactor will be energized it will make the parallel MR (NO initiallly which is parallel to the REVERSE push button) swich NC also it will disconnect the MF switch (NC one series with MF contactor )which is in series with the MF contactor. Always keep in mind that the REVERSE and FORWARD contactor will never be working simultaneously. So, as per the question the FORWARD contactor will be OFF now and REVERSE contactor will now work and it will latch the MOTOR will move in the REVERSE direction untill any further switching.

6.The purpose of NC contacts is to limit only one operation at a time. Here the FORWARD and REVERSE will be working indivisually not simulataneously. So when one gets ON (Here i mean the Contactors the round ones) it will make the corresponding contactors NO in the other side (NC contact of MR, which is series with the MF contactor will be NO when MR contactor is energized so it will disconnect the MF contactor in this way only one will work at a time).

7..As stated earlier that the purpose of the NC contacts of MR and MF contactor is to latch.Meaning of latching in simple words is to make the circuit live though the switch is opened again. It means that the latch will provide an alterate path for the current to flow.Which is in our case is NO contacts of MR and MF.

Hope this will help you if you want other parts then please comment as nothing is metioned i answered the first 5 questions thank you...
