Question
Does coffee or some other form of stimulation really allow a person suffering from alcohol intoxication to "sober up"? A sample of 44 healthy male college students participated in the experiment. Each student was asked to memorize a list of 40 words. The students were then randomly assigned to one of four different "drinking" groups (11 per group). Students in three of the groups were each given two alcoholic beverages to drink prior to performing a word completion task. Group A received only the alcoholic drinks. Group B had caffeine powder dissolved in their drinks, Group C received a monetary award for correct responses on the word completion task. Group D were told that they would receive alcohol, but instcad received two drinks containing a carbonated beverage (with a few drops of alcohol on the surface to provide an alcoholic scent). After consuming their drinks and resting for 25 minutes, the students performed the word completion task and their scores are reported below .51 .58 .52 .47 .61 .00 32 .53 .50 .46 .34 50 30 47 36 39 .22 20 21 15 10 .02 .16 .1 .2 .29-14 .18-35 .31 .16-04-25 58 .12 .62 43 26 .50 44 20 42 43 40 (7 points) The following analysis of variance table was constructed for this data. Fill in the blanks. Source of Variation Treatment Error Total df MS 0.9506 1.2317 What is the response variable? What is the factor for this experiment? How many treatments are there? What is the experimental unit for this experiment?Explanation / Answer
From the given data,
Response varibale : scores of students
Factor : Corporation
How many treatments are there : 4
Experimental a units: scores of students
H0: There is no significance difference among the means of 4 groups
H1: There is significance difference among the means of 4 groups
P-value : 0.000
Here P-value < alpha 0.05, so we reject H0
Thus we conclude that there is no significance difference among the means of 4 groups
