Question
A machine used to fill galion-sized paint cans is regulated so that the amount of paint dispensed has a mean of 126 ounces and a standard deviation of 0.30 ounce You randomly select 40 cans and carefully measure the contents. The sample mean of the cans is 125.9 ounces. Does the machine need to be reset? Explain your reasoning Eitis that you would have randomly sampled 40 cans with a mean equal to 125 9 ounces, because it within the range of a usual event, namely within of the mean of the sample means. very unlikely ikely Click to select your answer(s) 650 PM 12/7/2017 OType here to search 2 7Explanation / Answer
Solution:-
Hypotheses: Ho: u = 126
Ha: u not = 126
mean = 126 Z = (x - mu)/(sd/sqrt(n))
sd = 0.3
x = 125.9
z = (125.9 - 126)/(0.3/sqrt(40)) = -2.1082
Z -value below -2 or above 2 is that unusal.
=> yes , it is very unlikely that you would haven randomly sample 40 can with mean equal to 125.9 ounces.because it does not lie with in 2 standard deviation.
