Question

This week's discussion board will not require you to analyze a set of data. Instead, you will need to search the news media for a headline (or article text) that suggests a hypothesis.

For example, NPR (National Public Radio) published an article last Saturday (linked here) titled, "Trump's Approval Rating Decline Isn't That Big Compared With Predecessors' Drops." This headline suggests the following hypotheses:

H0 The decline of Trump's approval rating is less than or equal to the decline of his predecessors'

H1 The decline of Trump's approval rating is greater than the decline of his predecessors'.

The headline further suggests that data fails to reject the null hypothesis.

Examples of other (fictitious) headlines include:

"Most workers get their jobs through networking."

"The average weight of an airline passenger has increased 100 pounds over the past 20 years."

"Body temperature is not 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit after all."

You are to search for a headline (or text from within an article) that suggests a test of hypothesis. In your initial post, please quote the headline (or other text), and describe both the null and alternative hypotheses that the headline suggests. Also describe the conclusion that the headline suggests, and link the news article

Explanation / Answer

Mexico earthquake: Rescue efforts continue as death toll rises

H0 IN Mexico earthquake: Rescue operations fails to continue as death toll rises

H1 IN Mexico earthquake: Rescue efforts continue as death toll rises

The headline further suggests that data reject the null hypothesis
