As for me and problems that occur in my work place would be the wait time for clients. I work in a bank and surveys shows that many clients are unhappy with the wait times for service. In the bank they are two sides that provide different services. One side of the bank is the teller line and they take care of transactions such as deposits, check cashing, withdrawals, transfers etc. The other side is the platform side and they take care of everything else, such as processing beneficiary services, opening and closing accounts, issuing cards to clients etc. While reviewing the average wait time for both sides of the bank in reference to the wait times using the program called time charter which is used to average the wait time between clients the bank found that:

·         Customer satisfaction level with the wait times are dropping.

·         Then banks are unable to provide the services in times allotted by the program time charter.

·         The utilization of the systems in the banks is less that 65 percent.

·         Queues are longer than they have to be even with 65 percent utilization.

Hypothesis: the long wait times and queues are caused by insufficient customer service representatives.

Independent Variable: The number of bank representatives on shift, service rate, arrival times of clients.

Dependent variable: The wait time.

Question:

Examine the hypothesize to see how they are developed, are they measurable, and what is the dependent variable (DV). The DV should be a continuous or discrete number, thus identify the DV characteristics.

Explanation / Answer

Hypothesis - the hypothesis is to compare the mean of wait times and the mean of the number of customer service representative.

So we find mean of wait time and number of customer representative and compare them.

Dependent Variable - The wait time.

The dv i.e wait time is discrete number since it is countable.
