Question
You were hired as a consultant to analyze the factors that influence an individual’s propensity to watch TV. You are asked to use the General Social Survey 2002, which is a nationally representative sample of the US population. Having conducted an extensive literature review, you proposed the following theory and identified the following measures (the measurement of each variable - how it is coded in the data - is explained in each box below). You ran a multivariate regression model (the SPSS output is shown on the next page). Please, inspect the output and conduct a regression analysis.
THE INDEPENDENT VARIABLES THE DEPENDENT VARIABLE
HOURS PER DAY WATCHING TV
reported by each respondent
Measured in #hours
RESPONDENT’S SELF-IDENTIFIED AS “LOW OR WORKING CLASS” (rather than middle, or upper class)
1= Yes, 0 =No.
RESPONDENT’S HIGHEST YEAR OF SCHOOL COMPLETED
Measured in # years
AGE OF RESPONDENT
Measured in # years
RESPONDENT’S SEX
Measured as a dummy variable 1=Male, 0=Female
NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED LAST WEEK
Measured in # hours
NUMBER OF CHILDREN
Measured in # kids
HOURS PER DAY WATCHING TV
reported by each respondent
Measured in #hours
Explanation / Answer
In multivariate regression model, there is a relationship between the dependent variable Y and various independent variables. The output is depend upon the coefficient of the corresponding regressor depicting the nature of relationship of Y with it. For better interpretation, a significance level is consider where p-value is shows the variablew is significance or not. In this question, various variable are independnet and HOURS PER DAY WATCHING TV is a dependent variable. Therefore select a better suitable model which discribe your model complete . Thus, some variable may be omitted due to non presence in the model.
So, provided a data set which may be analysis a multiple regression model.
