Question
4. Richard Dulskd's firm is about to bid on a new radar system. Although the product uses new technology Dulski believes that a learning rate of 80% is appropriate. The first unit is expected to take 580 hours, and he contract is for 30 units. a) The total amount of hours to build the 30 units hours (round your response to the nearest whole number). b) The average time to build each of the 30 units- decimal places) c) If a worker works 2,080 hours per year, the number of workers required to complete this contract in a year hours (round your response to two workers (round your response to two decimal places).Explanation / Answer
Using logarithmic model
kn = k1 * nb
Where kn time required for nth unit
k1 is time required for 1st unit
b = log r/log 2
r is learning rate
a)
b = log 0.08/ log2 = -0.321
hours required to build 30th unit , k30 = k1 * 30-0.321 = 580 *30-0.321 = 194 hours
Step 1 : Same way calculate time required for nth unit from 1 to 30
Step 2 : Add all nth unit
This will give total time taken to produce 30 unit
Total Time taken = 8131.54 hours
b )
Average time to take each of the unit = 8131.54/30 = 271.05
c) Workers required in a year = Total Hours required / capacity of one worker = 8131.54/2080 = 3.90 = 4 workers
