Question

A regression equation was estimated as y = 155 + 34X_1 - 12X_2. If X_1 = 3 and X_2 = 2, the predicted value of Y would be: a). 29 b). 77 c). 233 d). 281 Partial computer output from a multiple regression study estimating sales based on population in the area and advertising dollars is provided below. Regard Population as X_1 and Advertising as X_2. Which of the following statements is more true? a). the test (with alpha = 05) of whether or not beta_2 = 0 indicates that X_2 is not significantly related to Y. b). the test (with alpha = 05) of whether or not beta_1 = 0 indicates that X_1 is not significantly related to Y. c). the test (with alpha = 05) of whether or not beta_2 = 0 indicates that X_2 can be dropped from the model containing both X_1 and X_2. d). the test (with alpha = 05) of whether or not beta_1 = 0 indicates that X_1 can be dropped from the model containing both X_1 and X_2.

Explanation / Answer

As the regression equation given to us is:

Y= 155+34X1-12X2     …(i)

Here X1 and X2 is given to us that is 3 and 2 respectively.

Now to estimate the value of Y(  )we put the value of X1and X2 in equation (i)

Y = 155+34 X 3-12 X 2

= 155 + 102 – 24

= 257 – 24

= 233

So the value estimated value of Y is 233 and correct answer is (c).
