Write a system of equations to represent the situation with x representing the price of a senior citizen ticket and y representing the price of a child ticket. B. What is the cost of one senior citizen ticket and one child ticket?

Explanation / Answer

(5)Let price of French Silk be x and chocolate marble be y

(A) Then the system of equations are

9x + 9y = 117

(Divide both sides by 9 )

=> x + y = 13 --------- (1)

and

14x +3y = 94 ----------(2)

(B) Put y = (13 - x) from (1) in (2)=>

14x + 3(13-x) = 94

=> 14x + 39 - 3x = 94

=> 11x = 94 - 39 = 55

=> x = 55/11

=> x = 5

From (1) ,

y = 13 - x = 13 - 5

=> y = 8
