Question
If you are not sure ignore it
An electron is imprisoned inside a vacuum tube of a length of several centimeters. A repulsive potential of a few volts is applied on both sides of the tube. In this problem, O A) The electron can possibly have sufficient kinetic energy, and therefore may be able to escape from the tube. O B) The question of the electron possibly escaping from the tube is a probability question; and therefore depends on Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. O c) The electron can never escape from the described tube, or potential trap.Explanation / Answer
As we know that electrons can escape potential wells even if the net Kinetic energy of the electron is lesser than the potential barriers on the both sides of the electron. Now, this escape from the potnetial well is a probabilistic problem but does not depednd just on uncertianiy principle, but mainly on the schrodinger's wave equations
So, correct answer: Option (a)
that the electron may have sufficient KE and then it may escape from the tube assuming that the potential applied to the both sides of the tube is just a few volts (given) seems more appropriate
