Question
A manufacturing firm just received a shipment of 34 assembly parts, of slightly varied sizes, from a vendor. The manager knows that there are only 27 parts in the shipment that would be suitable. He examines these parts one at a time. a. Find the probability that the first part is suitable. (Round your answer to 2 decimal places.) Probability b. If the first part is suitable, find the probability that the second part is also suitable. (Round your answer to 4 decimal places.) Probability c. If the first part is suitable, find the probability that the second part is not suitable. (Round your answer to 4 decimal places.) Probability
Explanation / Answer
Solution:-
a) The probability that the first part is suitable is 0.7941.
Number of suitable parts = 27
Number of total assembly parts = 34
The probability that the first part is suitable = 27/34 = 0.7941
b) The probability that the second part is also suitable is 0.7878.
If first part is suitable, than we are left with 26 suitable and 33 total parts
Number of suitable parts = 26
Number of total assembly parts = 33
The probability that the first part is suitable = 26/33 = 0.7878
c) If the first part is suitable, than the probability that the second part is not suitable is 0.2121.
Number of unsuitable parts = 7
Number of total assembly parts = 33
If the first part is suitable, than the probability that the second part is not suitable = 7/33 = 0.2121
