Question

1. Circle either smaller or larger for each sentence

a) The margin of error is (larger/smaller) for smaller sample size n, so the width of confidence interval is (larger/smaller) for sample size.

b) The width of confidence interval is (larger/smaller) for the sample with lots of variability.

c) The margin of error is (larger/smaller) for higher confidence levels,so width of confidence interval is (larger/smaller) for higher confidence levels

What I think but could be wrong: For a) I think the first part is larger and for C) the first part is smaller but Im not sure.

Explanation / Answer

margin of error =z*std deviation/(n)1/2

for higher confidence and std deviation margin of error increases while for smaller it decreases

a)  margin of error is larger for smaller sample size n.

b) width of confidence interval is larger for the sample with lots of variability.

c) The margin of error is larger for higher confidence levels,so width of confidence interval is larger for higher confidence levels
