Explanation / Answer

In graphic 1, the designer has shown the changing trend in proportion of 80+ year old population, in comparison with population less than 5 year old. The designer have given contrasting colours, with bright red for old age, to make it more visible than the grey coloured child population. This is done so as to make it clear that it is the growing old age population that the designer wants to point out. This he have done well with effective usage oc colours. In the graphics, the illustration of child and old man shows the change that is happening. In firt portion, the child is looking down at the old man where as in the second one, the old man is raised above the child. This illustration itself makes it clear for the viewer that there is significant increase in old age population. The idea he wanted to convey he being conveyed easily with illustration. There is no mathematical interpretation required.

In graphic2, it looks like a pie chart, but it doesnot convey the same msg as a pie chart. A pie chart would let us knoe the proportion of each subcategory. But here, equal weightage is given to all subcategoriesn that too without any numerical values. He it just means that these are the 5 subcategories that are identified as the 'context for change". This way of representation is not as effective as a pie chart as it cannot give weightage or show any proportion to any aspect.

By 'future environment', the designer intend to show that the categories technology and process are the two parts of future environment. But it can be interpreted so only after reading the explanation given below. Without it, anyone can interpret that as an overall title given to the graph. It is written that in turn chapter will be discussed, but we dont know what is the order the illustrator want to indicate here. The explanation also doesnt reveals the weightage of the subcategories. It is only as effective as listing out 5 components in a list. But the explanation is useful for interpreting that only technology and process will come under 'future environment'.
