Question

A Harris corporation/University of Florida study was undertaken to determine whether a manufacturing process performed at a remote location can be established locally. Test devices were set up at both the old and new locations and voltage readings on the process were obtained. A "good" process was considered to be one with voltage reading of at least 9.2 volts (with larger readings being better than smaller readings). The table contains voltage readings for 30 production runs at each location. 1. Construct a frequency histogram for the voltage readings at each location. Compare the two graphs and provide appropriate interpretations. 2. Use the computer to generate descriptive statistics (mean, median, standard deviation, and interquartile range) for each location. Interpret the results. 3. Construct a box plot for the voltage readings at each location. Do you detect any outliers? Specify.

Explanation / Answer

Histogram for old location data set

Histogram for new location data set

By observing these both Histogram

Old location: look like negative skewed and unimodal. This mode is greater than the mode of New location.

New location: In this graph variation is less as compared to old location histogram.

here both data set having more than 9.2 mean value. Median and Mode of old location are higher than the new location. In averages perspective old location is good than new location. But in variation perspective new location is good.If we calculate coeifficient of variation (CV = (standard deviation/mean)*100 ) for both data sets, we get the CV of old location is 5.52% and CV of new location is 5.08%. New location CV is less than Old location. Hence New location is better than old location.
