Question
A town has two clubs, the hiking club and the basketball club. Some people belong to the hiking club, but not the basketball club. Some people belong to the basketball club, but not the hiking club. Fifteen people belong to both clubs. Forty-five people belong to neither club. Membership is independence. One of the forty-five people who belongs to neither club leaves and moves out of town. Which of the following is true: A) Membership is still independent; B) Membership is no longer independent; C) It is impossible to tell if membership is still independent; D) This question is actually flawed because it is impossible for membership to be independent in the first place.
The answer is B and I don't know why.
Explanation / Answer
Membership is no longer independent because now P(Hiking) * P( Basketball) will not be equal to P(Hiking and Basketball).
