Question
4. Run a multiple regression where the dependent variable is ratings and the independent variables are star and fact. Use data from CBC only. CBC Management has several questions: a. Which has more impact on a movie’s rating: Being fact-based or having one star? How much does each of these factors change the ratings? b. How well does this regression analysis explain the ratings? Justify your answers referring to the relevant figures. c. Are either, both, or neither of the independent variables significantly related to the ratings at 95% confidence? Justify your answers referring to the relevant figures.

Here we wnat to run the multiple regression where the dependent variable is ratings and the independent variables are star and fact.
using minitab
Step 1) first enter the given data in minitab columns
step 2) Click on Stat>>>Regression >>>General Regression...
Response: Rating ( because here rating is our dependent variable)
Model: Select Facts and then select Stars
then click on OK so we get the following output
General Regression Analysis: Rating versus Fact, Stars
Regression Equation
Rating = 13.9935 + 1.01298 Fact + 0.0850413 Stars
Coefficients
Term Coef SE Coef T P
Constant 13.9935 0.371775 37.6398 0.000
Fact 1.0130 0.457093 2.2161 0.029
Stars 0.0850 0.414909 0.2050 0.838
Summary of Model
S = 2.00145 R-Sq = 5.74% R-Sq(adj) = 3.53%
PRESS = 364.370 R-Sq(pred) = -0.87%

Pure Error 83 332.255 332.255 4.0031
Total 87 361.239
From the above output the multiple regression model is
Rating = 13.9935 + 1.01298 Fact + 0.0850413 Stars
Since the coefficient of Facts (1.01298) is greater than the coefficient of Stars(0.0850413 ) so that Facts are more important than Stars
The change of Facts and Stars are same as there coefficients.
b) R-square = 5.74% so just 5.74% of the variation in Rating is explain by the independent variables(Facts and Stars)
c).since p-value of Stars is 0.838 is very large from 0.05 so we can say that Stars is not significance variable at 95% confidence.
but p-value of Facts is 0.029 < 0.05 so we can say that at 95% confidence facts is significantly related with Rating.
