istics and Probability for Engineers Assignment Gradebook PRINTER VERStoN 4 BACK. An article in Wood Science and Technology Coreep in Chipboard, part 3: Initial Assessment of the Influence of Moisture Content and Level of stressing on Rate of Creep Time to Failure," Vol. 15, 1981, pp. 125-144) describes the results of a study of the deflection (mm) of particleboard from stress levels of relative humidity. Assume that the two variables are related according to the simple linear regression model. The data are shown belowi Stress level Deflection (mm) S4 16.473 18,693 14,305 61 11.640 11.168 75 12.534 75 11.224 75 Minitab was used to regression equation to the above data set. The results follow. fit a Predictor

Explanation / Answer

From the regression output we can form the regression equation using the coefficients table as

Deflection = 32.049 -0.27712*stressLevel

so B0 = 32.049 and B1 = -0.27712

b) so the regression equation is

Deflection = 32.049 -0.27712*stressLevel , if the stress level is 55% then

deflection is

32.049 -0.27712*stressLevel =  32.049 -0.27712*55 = 16.80

c) we know that from the regression equation

Deflection = 32.049 -0.27712*stressLevel so for 1% change in stress level deflection changes by -0.27712 , so for 4% change the change would be

4*-0.27712 = -1.10848

d)

deflection decreases by 0.27712 units for 1 unit change ,, ignoring the constant

so for 1.1 units

1.1/0.27712 = 3.969 units change in stress level
