Question
A dietitian in a hospital is to arrange a special diet using three foods, L, M, and N. Each ounce of food L contains 20 units of calcium, 20 units of iron, 20 units of vitamin A, and 20 units of cholesterol. Each ounce of food M contains 10 units of calcium, 20 units of iron, 30 units of vitamin A, and 20 units of chclesterol. Each cunce of food N contains 10 units of calcium, 20 units of iron, 20 units of vitamin A, and 18 units of cholesterol Select the correct choice below and fill in any answer boxes present in your choice. If the minimum daily requirements are 340 units of calcium, 440 units of iron, and 480 units of vitamin A, how many ounces of each food should be used to meet the minimum requirements and at the same time minimize the cholesterol intake? A. The special diet should indlude xounces of food L, 2ounces of food M, and xounces of food N ? B. There is no way to minimize the cholesterol intake.Explanation / Answer
Let x = number of units of each ounce of Food L
y = number of units of each ounce of Food M
z= number of units of each ounce of Food N
Minimize , P = 340 x + 440 y+ 480 z
As we have three Foods namely L, M and N
And four ingradients , calcium, iron, vitamin A and cholestrol.
Minimum requirement of calcium, iron amd vitamin A is given but minimum requirement of cholestrol is not given. So we can not set up equations to solve for minimize.
Hence there is no way to minimize cholestrol intake.
