PLEASE SHOW WORK (HOW TO) THANK YOU

The table below summarizes the number of surface flaws found on the paintwork of new cars following their inspection after primer paint was applied by a new method:

Part a) Find the mean number of flaws per car. Please give your answer to two decimal places.
The mean number of flaws per car is: __

Part b) Find the variance of the number of flaws per car. Please give your answer to two decimal places.
The variance of the number of flaws per car is: __

No. of flaws No. of cars 0 5 1 9 2 14 3 12 4 6 5 3 6 1

Explanation / Answer

A) mean number of flaws per car

= [sum of (no of flaws x nof cars)]/total no of cars

= (0x5+1x9+2x14+3x12+4x6+5x3+6x1)/(5+9+14+12+6+3+1)

= 118/50 = 2.36

B) varience = sum of [(no of flaws-mean no of flaws)2 x no of cars)]/(total number of cars)

= [(0-2.36)2x5 + (1-2.36)2x9 + (2-2.36)2x14 + (3-2.36)2x12 + (4-2.36)2x6 + (5-2.36)2x3 + (6-2.36)2x1] / 50

= (27.85+16.65+1.81+4.92+16.14+20.91+13.25)/50

= 2.03
