Question
You conducted a statistical analysis and did not find that there was a statistical difference in life satisfaction between people who own dogs (N=5) and people who do not own dogs (N+=5). You still maintain that people who own dogs have happier lives than people who do not. Therefore, you suspect that you have a Type II error. In reviewing your study design (described above), you decide there were a few things that probably decreased the power of your study. What two things decreased the power of your study? If you were to conduct your study again, describe how you could remedy these two problems, and thereby reduce the probability of a Type II error? (ie., increasing the power of your study)
Explanation / Answer
The two things that decreased the power of study:
1.the sample size of people who own dogs is small
2. sample size of people who do not own dogs is small
If the study is conducted again I would use large sample sizes N and N+ nearly 30 so as to reduce the probability of a type 2 error.
