Question

How do I illustrate one divided by four?

I was trying to create a video illustrating "one divided by four" by showing a circle being cut into four slices. However, I ran into a problem--namely once the circle had been cut into four slices, there were 4 one-fourths left on the screen.

My child says, "but why are there four one-fourths left if the answer is one-fourth?"

What has gone wrong in my illustration?

Here's a video I made to illustrate my problem if it's not clear: https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=3JRYrFIGeVE

Explanation / Answer

Ofcourse you will have 4 one-fourths .......

When u divide one big pizza into 4 equal parts , each part is one-fourth and there are total 4 pieces

Do it this way.....by divide...we mean remove the left over parts.....first cut the circle into 2 parts...and remove one part..

Now cut the semi circle into 2 parts and remove one part...u'll have only one part left which is the "one-fourth" and the answer

P.S I've watched your videos.... U do care a lot about your kid and that's nice.....
