7, A sample of n = 10 automobiles was FSSFSS a. What is the value of the sample proportion of successes x/n? visible damage byelected, and each was subjected to a 5-mph crash test.Denoting a car F, results were as follows: S S S F was subjected to a b. Replace each S with a 1 and each F with a 0. Then calculate z for this numerically coded sample. How does x compare to x/n? Suppose it is decided to include 15 more cars in the experiment. How many of these would have to be S's so that /n 80 for the entire sample of 25 cars? c.
Explanation / Answer
a) In the 10 samples, there are 7 success and 3 failures
Sample proportion of success = number of success/total number of samples = 7/10 = 0.70
b)
Since we denote S=1 and F=0
Sum of all x's = 1 + 1 + 1 + 0 + 0 + 1 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 7
x's (mean) = sum of all x's/number of observations = 7/10 = 0.7
This value is same as x/n
c)
Total number of cars = 10 cars (from old experiment) + 15 (more cars ) = 25
For x/n = 0.80
x = 25(0.80) = 20
So the sample of 25 cars, must have 20S and 5F
Earlier sample has 7 success and 3 failures
number of S in the next 15 car lots = 20 - 7 = 13
